We were proud to join our friends at Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward, California  for the grand opening of the newly renovated Monte H. Greenawalt Life West Health Center on April 13th. Named after Foot Levelers’ founder, the Center brings affordable Chiropractic care to the people of the San Francisco Bay Area. It also serves as a state-of-the-art learning environment for Life West students, as they work toward earning their doctorate degrees in Chiropractic.

Foot Levelers has been a big supporter of Chiropractic since the beginning, starting with our founder Dr. Monte, who was a tireless advocate of the profession. As Dr. Monte’s son and our Chairman and CEO puts it, “The health center is a fitting way to honor my father’s commitment to growing the Chiropractic profession and to helping others.”

The newly renovated health center features a bright and modern front reception, computerized patient intake areas, and cutting-edge technology including several of Foot Levelers’ 3D BodyView imaging systems for examining patients’ feet. If you live in the Bay Area or find yourself there on a visit, be sure to check out the beautiful Monte H. Greenawalt Life West Health Center. You can learn more about it at LifeWestHealthCenter.com.

Abby Oliver in our Sales and Service department did great in the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon this past Saturday. Liz on our team chatted with Abby at the finish line after Abby completed the grueling 26.2 miles–in her Foot Levelers’ XP3+ orthotics, no less–check out our new video here!

Big congrats to Foot Levelers’ team members Abby, Josh Barto and Steve Stone–and to all those who braved America’s Toughest Road Marathon! See you next year!

Congratulations Runners, and Thanks to All!

Thank you to all the runners, volunteers, fans, sponsors and more who made the 2016 Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon an outstanding success!  See you in 2017!

Look Who Made the Front Page!

RT coverWe’re excited for our own Abby Oliver, who graces the front page of The Roanoke Times today, our hometown paper!

Abby is a rockstar in our Sales and Service department and an accomplished basketball player in her “previous life”–to say the least. The Times talked to her about training for the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon–her very first marathon, and known as America’s toughest–happening just steps from our office door tomorrow!

‘Course, Abby is no stranger to challenges.  Among a mile-long list of achievements, she was the University of Richmond’s women’s team 7th Leading All-Time Scorer when she graduated in 2012, and the nation’s best at the free throw line. Read that again: the nation’s best. Number 1, Numero Uno, Top Dog, Queen Bee. Holy wow. Before joining our team, Abby played pro overseas.

At Foot Levelers, Abby helps doctors from all over the world choose the right custom-made orthotics for their patients, many of whom are professional athletes. Her experience on the court makes her a natural when it comes to helping docs help patients stay injury-free and performing at their peak.

We know Abby will do great at The Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon, and we’ll all be rooting for her at the finish line. Go Abby go!

30,000 Tragic Reasons to Choose Conservative, Drug-Free Care First

Drug companies are making a killing off us.

By the end of 2014, nearly 30,000 Americans had died from an opioid overdose, many in the prime of their lives. Mothers, brothers, fathers, daughters… Every single one with a story to tell.

These are people just like you and me. Many got accidentally hooked on a legal, if controlled, opioid substance after a surgery, or under doctor’s orders for treating chronic pain.

From the front lines of America’s opioid epidemic, check out this recent article from a physician in New Mexico, someone who sees the human toll every day, often as it’s being wheeled into his Emergency Room on a gurney, moments from death. A few highlights:

oxyana_poster

Oxyana is a 2013 documentary about the tragic decline of once-thriving Oceana, West Virginia, nicknamed “Oxyana” for its residents’ widespread use/abuse of the prescription opioid OxyContin

  • Nearly 30,000 Americans died from opioid overdose in 2014, a number that has tripled since 2000. That’s “ten 9/11s every single year.”  For comparison, about 5,000 die annually from cocaine overdose.
  • Legal opioids–the ones your doctor can prescribe–are responsible for at least half of these deaths. The rest come from illegal opioids like heroin, but three out of five new heroin users get their start on the prescription stuff.
  • Millions have been spent by Big Pharma to make sure these highly addictive drugs get into Americans’ hands. While people are dying and communities are falling apart, they’re raking in billions.

“The pharmaceutical industry, physicians and other prescribers, hospitals, and the FDA are all to blame,” the author writes.

While the problem is finally getting the attention it deserves, the danger of pharmaceuticals is yet another reason to consider natural, drug-free treatment first, whenever possible. When it comes to musculoskeletal problems, many causes of chronic pain can get better with conservative care, like Chiropractic adjustments plus custom-made orthotics. The research proves it–you can read about it here.
